Professional Outdoor Lighting Planner
We start by walking your property at dusk. That's the only honest way to plan a scheme. Light behaves nothing like it does on a sunny afternoon.
- Consultation & Assessment: We walk the property after dark, discuss how you use it, and set a budget range.
- Design & Fixture Selection: We map the zones and pick fixtures. Brass or copper goes in wherever salt air demands it.
- Approval & Installation: You approve the plan. We bury the wire below shovel depth and set every fixture.
- Completion & Support: We adjust the aim, set the timers, and show you how to run it.
Design Consultation
A lighting plan gets decided outdoors, in the dark. Not on paper. So we walk your property at dusk and look at what’s worth lighting.
- Personalised plan: We match the scheme to how you use the space and what you want to spend.
- The right features: Specimen trees, the entry, and the view from your kitchen window matter more than lighting everything.
- Safety and security: Considered placement improves both, without the glare of a floodlight.
- Professional installation: We handle transformer sizing, buried wire runs, and fixture aiming.

Tree Uplighting
Uplighting a mature tree is the highest-impact move on most properties. Fixtures at the base wash the trunk and throw the canopy into relief. That gives the whole yard depth after dark.
We aim each fixture on site once it’s dark. Aiming a light in daylight is guesswork.

Moonlighting
Fixtures mounted high in a tree cast soft, dappled light down, like real moonlight. It’s the most natural technique there is.
It works beautifully here in winter, too. Once the trees drop their leaves, moonlighting throws patterned shadows across snow. You don’t get that effect in a warm climate. So we plan for it.

Path & Driveway Lighting
Path lighting guides people and makes an entry welcoming. The trick is spacing. Fixtures set too close read as a runway. That looks cheap, and it lights nothing well.
So we space them to pool light where it’s needed, and leave dark between. Contrast is what makes a path look designed.

Garden & Bed Lighting
Low light through planting beds adds texture and depth. We use it to pick out feature plants, stone edges and grasses. Flooding the whole bed does the opposite.
Near the road we place fixtures clear of salt spray. It reaches further than most people expect.

Facade & Water Feature Lighting
Grazing light across stone, shingle or brick brings out your home’s texture. It also lifts curb appeal from the street. For water features, submerged and edge fixtures turn a pond or waterfall into a night-time focal point.
For light built into walls, steps and paver surfaces, see our hardscape lighting service.

Why Fixture Metal Matters on the North Shore
Salt air is brutal on fixtures. Painted aluminum and plated finishes pit and corrode near the water. Most fail within a few seasons. So you replace the whole run twice in a decade.
Solid brass and copper behave differently. They gain a patina instead of corroding through, and they keep working. They cost more upfront, and far less over fifteen years.
So we use brass or copper as standard near the coast. Inland, aluminum is a fair saving. We’ll tell you which side of that line your address sits on. UMass Extension publishes regional guidance worth reviewing for coastal site conditions.
Designed for snow, too. Snow reflects light, so a scheme set in July reads harsh in January. We build in dimmable zones. You dial it down once the ground is white, then back up in spring.
Our Recent Lighting Projects
We’ve lit properties from the shoreline to the Merrimack Valley. Uplit trees, moonlit lawns, welcoming entries, and gardens that hold their shape after dark. Every system gets transformer headroom, so you can add zones later without replacing anything.
Residential & Commercial Outdoor Lighting in Massachusetts
We install, maintain and repair low-voltage systems for homes and businesses. We cover the North Shore, Essex County and Middlesex County.
Outdoor Lighting Services FAQ
What is landscape lighting?
It lights the living and built parts of a property. Trees, garden beds, paths, water features, and the house itself. Light set into stone walls, steps and pavers is hardscape lighting, which we handle separately.
What fixtures last longest in Massachusetts?
Solid brass and copper. Near the coast, salt air pits painted aluminum and plated finishes within a few seasons. Brass gains a patina instead, and it keeps working for decades.
Does landscape lighting work in winter?
It’s arguably better in winter. Sunset is around 4:15 in December. So lighting is how you see the property for months. Snow reflects light too, so we build in dimmable zones.
How many fixtures does a yard need?
Fewer than most people expect. A few well-placed trees and a lit entry read far better than lighting it all. Over-lit yards look flat and bother the neighbours.
Is low-voltage lighting safe?
Yes. These systems run at 12 volts through a transformer, so buried wire carries far less risk than line voltage. The transformer needs a proper exterior outlet.
