Spring Pool Opening (May)
Cover removal and cleaning, refill and water testing, reconnecting equipment, priming the pump, removing winter plugs, and balancing water chemistry so the pool is clear and swimmable from day one.
Fall Pool Closing & Winterization (September–October)
Water-level adjustment, blowing out every plumbing line, adding winter chemicals, draining and protecting equipment, and installing and securing the cover. We winterize before the first hard freeze — in Massachusetts, that window is mid-September to mid-October
Weekly & Bi-Weekly Pool Care (June–August)
Skimming, brushing, vacuuming, filter cleaning, chemical testing and balancing, and equipment checks. You get a clear pool and a live report each visit.

What Our Professional Opening & Closing Includes
Spring opening — our checklist:
- Remove and clean the winter cover, then store it properly
- Inspect the liner, coping, tile, and skimmer for winter damage
- Remove winter plugs and reinstall fittings
- Refill and balance the water level
- Reconnect pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator
- Prime the pump and check for leaks
- Brush, vacuum, and clean the interior
- Test and balance water chemistry; shock to a clear, swim-ready start
Fall closing — our checklist:
- Lower the water level to the manufacturer’s recommended line
- Blow out all plumbing lines with compressed air — every drop, every line
- Add pool-grade antifreeze to skimmers, returns, and drains
- Drain and protect pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator; remove drain plugs
- Add winter chemicals: algaecide, stain preventer, and oxidizer
- Install and secure the winter cover, solid or mesh, with proper water bags
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the right time for pool opening and closing? Close once water holds steadily below 65°F, usually late September through late October. Open again between mid-April and Memorial Day. Closing while the water is still warm invites algae under the cover.
What happens if a pool isn’t winterized properly? Water left in the lines, pump, filter or heater freezes and expands. It cracks whatever holds it. Those repairs cost far more than the closing that would have prevented them.
Which pool cover is best for heavy snow? A mesh safety cover lets meltwater drain through. It handles snow load well with little upkeep. Solid covers keep water cleanest, but they need a pump on top to clear standing meltwater.
When should I open my pool? Mid-April through Memorial Day for most pools here. Open earlier, while water is still cold, and you clear less algae for lower chemical cost.
Do you service pools you didn’t build? Yes. We inspect the equipment on the first visit. Any existing issues get flagged before we winterize, so nothing gets blamed on the closing later.
Can I book opening and closing together? You can, and most clients do. Booking both locks in your schedule at each end of the season.
